Stop the Dolphin Slaughter

WAYN (Where Are You Now) alongside Marine Connection are petitioning against dolphin slaughter in Japan. Here is their plea:

"REVEALING THE TRUTH TO THE WORLD
Keeping the Pressure on to Stop the Slaughter

"Each year, 20,000 dolphins are killed off the coast of Japan and by petitioning the Japanese Government to act against this slaughter we may be able to make a difference. These barbaric killings are subsidised by the sale of live dolphins by fishermen to the international aquarium market, which pays upwards of $45,000 for specimens to be used in dolphin shows and swim-with-dolphin entertainments. Right now American aquarium specialists are buying 12 bottlenose dolphins for the Ocean World amusement park in the Dominican Republic.T his will subsidise more killings for meat products. The status of these species is often endangered and the killing methods are far from humane.

We think the trade and slaughter of dolphins is wrong and should be stopped immediately. If you think so too please support our petition to the Japanese government with your online signature. We the undersigned demand the end of the barbaric slaughter of dolphins and of the sale of live dolphins to the international aquarium industry:

Act Now! The only way to stop the dolphin slaughter is to keep monitoring, advocating, filming, and bringing attention to it. One of the main reasons that the killing continues is that very few people - in Japan and around the world - even know it is happening."

Better Planet @ Yahoo.com

To kick of this blog... here comes an interesting initiative by Yahoo! to stimulate a "greener world". They plan on giving out points to the greener city of the USA, based on points that their users rack up for doing certain things online. The prizes include compact fluorescent lightbulbs for the users, and a hybrid taxi fleet for the city!

You can:

  • Take the Green Pledge (and follow the tips of how to live a life that is less harmful to the environment)
  • Share your Knowledge (Yahoo has a Q & A section for its users!)
    • While you are browsing around Yahoo!Answers, why don't you go ahead and browse through this question and include your own answer?
  • Do Eco-friendly searches on Yahoo!Mobile's OneSearch.

Go to the link provided
to get even more details about their ideas.
We can make a difference.
